KAIRUKI HOSPITAL MAKES HISTORY IN TANZANIA’S MEDICAL SECTOR

Kairuki Hospital has made history in East and Central Africa by launching a cutting-edge technology for non-surgical tumor removal using a medical device known as High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU).

This state-of-the-art machine eliminates various types of tumors in the body without the need for incisions, punctures, anesthesia, or blood transfusions.

Speaking at the launch event for this technology, the Guest of Honor Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, stated that Kairuki Hospital’s achievement as the first Hospital to introduce this service in East and Central Africa promotes medical tourism.

Dr. Biteko commended Kairuki Hospital for its continued collaboration with the government in delivering high-quality healthcare services, noting that the hospital has been a pioneer in introducing various medical services since its establishment. He urged other healthcare institutions to learn from the exemplary practices of Kairuki Hospital.

Dr. Biteko also called on officials in the Ministry of Health to adopt a learning mindset from the private sector, particularly where it excels, and to foster cooperation to ensure quality services reach the public, in line with the government’s goals.

Addressing a request to improve the road adjacent around the Hospital, Deputy Prime Minister Biteko directed the Kinondoni Municipal Council to address the issue promptly to ensure infrastructure is accessible, especially for patients seeking medical services.

On her part, the Chairperson of Kairuki Health and Education Network (KHEN), Ms. Kokushubila Kairuki, expressed gratitude to the government for its continued support for the private sector. She emphasized that Kairuki Hospital remains committed to upholding the vision of its late founder, Professor Kairuki.

Earlier, the Acting Director General of Kairuki Hospital, Dr. Onesmo Kaganda, revealed that the investment in this technology cost 12.3 billion Tanzanian shillings, funded through strong partnerships with various financial institutions. Dr. Kaganda further noted that, to date, 300 patients have successfully had both cancerous and non-cancerous tumors removed, including those in the cervix, breast, bones, prostate, and other areas.
